Girls Workshop Choices: listed below are the workshops offered this year. You will be able to choose 3 out of these to attend during the day.
Bend it Shape It Yoga for Girls Learn how yoga can help you deal with stress and help keep you fit. Introduction to the origination and practice of yoga. Learn and practice basic yoga poses and breathing techniques you can use throughout life. [Note: This session includes physical activity so comfortable clothes are required]

BFF Learn how to make a friend, be a good friend and keep a friend. Learn effective communication skills and how to cope with friendships/relationships in a healthy way.

Bigger Than Myself Nothing makes us feel better about ourselves than to make a positive difference in someone else’s life. This workshop will inspire you to volunteer so you can make a personal difference in your community or somewhere else in the world. Youth volunteers will be on hand from a local S-Club (a high school girls' service club sponsored by Soroptimist) and from the Volunteer Center of the East Bay to share their personal volunteer experiences and knowledge with you. You’ll learn how to get started as a volunteer and where to look for opportunities to help out. Caroline Lovell will introduce you to the simple but highly effective Traveling Postcard project she created. Through the Traveling Postcard’s experience she’ll help YOU see your strengths and help you to create a meaningful expression of compassionate caring that you can share with a woman in need.

Cheer's All That! Have you always wondered what it would be like to be a cheerleader? Come and learn the basics of cheerleading including jumps, motions and voice projection. No prior experience required. [Note: This session includes physical activity so comfortable clothes are required]

Code Busters Club Develop your inner sleuthing skills and join Penny Warner, author of THE CODE BUSTERS CLUB, for a workshop of puzzling and mysterious fun! Each participant will receive an Evidence Bag filled with code-busting materials, including a variety of secret decoder cards, a secret packet for hiding the codes, an invisible pen for writing secret messages, and a bunch of codes to crack! Cyber Safe and Sane On-line You might think that you know everything you need to about the Internet but this class will help you better understand the social networking do's and don'ts to protect yourself while still having fun.

Defining Me… Setting Personal Boundaries My stomach hurts, my mouth opens, but there is no sound. When I am about to say IT, I change the subject.” Does having to say “No” make you react like this? If so, we will share and discuss in our workshop what boundaries are, why we need to have them, what makes it hard to set boundaries and we will review effective communication of boundaries with people we know—friends, fellow students, coaches and parents (yes! you can have boundaries with your parents!:). You will feel empowered at the end of this session—at least we hope you will!:)

Facial Finishes Learn about different skin types/conditions and gain product knowledge for appropriate skin care. Develop an understanding of make-up types and brands/colors that work best for you. Learn not only the "tools of the trade" (basic implements) but also the "tricks of the trade" (application techniques) as well.

Find Your Passion In this class, you will learn how to identify your true passion and brainstorm ways to continually pursue it. You will learn how to find and surround yourself with like-minded people who can mentor and guide you as you follow your passion. We will also talk about social media and the Internet, and how to use them correctly in both researching and networking with others on the road to making your dreams come true!

Get the lowdown on fun fitness choices, strength training, eating disorders and diets. The media forms our ideas about what is healthy and what isn’t (fad diets, celebrity diets, etc) but we really need to learn about proper health and nutrition for ourselves vs. relying on the media to tell us what to put into our bodies.

Self Defense—What Every Girl Should Know Every girl needs to know how to stay safe and protect herself, if necessary. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to set verbal boundaries and physically fight back if you need to. Very interactive; everyone will practice multiple types of strikes and escape methods. Straight Talk on Boys, Relationships and Other Teen Issues How do guys think? What impresses them or not? Learn straight from a guy how to value yourself in relationships and deal with peer pressure in areas such as drinking, drugs and teen sex.

Straight Talk on Boys, Relationships and Other Teen Issues – Level II This fun and energetic workshop will help you to feel equipped, educated and empowered as you prepare to enter high school. It will focus on what a healthy relationship looks like and how you can build your self-confidence and self-esteem which will enable you to have an awesome high school experience. This is a FRANK discussion about: 1) making good choices to achieve your goals; 2) the stages of physical behavior in a relationship; 3) risks of early sexual activity (physical and emotional) including an update on STDs; 4) how to build healthy relationships and 5) drugs and alcohol. [Note: This class is for 8th Graders ONLY - this WILL be monitored! Note the waiver for this class in the T's and C's of the registration form]
