“Mean Girls”
How to deal with gossip, bullying, and other drama in a girl's world. Learn effective communication skills and how to cope with relationships in a healthy way.

Learn about different skin types/conditions and gain product knowledge for appropriate skin care. Develop an understanding of make-up types and brands/colors that work best for you. Learn not only the "tools of the trade" (basic implements) but also the "tricks of the trade" (application techniques) as well.

“Straight Talk on Boys, Relationships and Other Teen Issues”
How do guys think? What impresses them or not? Learn straight from a guy how to value yourself in relationships and deal with peer pressure in areas such as drinking, drugs and teen sex.

“Straight Talk on Boys, Relationships and Other Teen Issues” - Level II
This fun and energetic workshop will help you to feel equipped, educated and empowered as you prepare to enter high school. It will focus on what a healthy relationship looks like and how you can build your self-confidence and self-esteem which will enable you to have an awesome high school experience. This is a FRANK discussion about: 1) making good choices to achieve your goals; 2) the stages of physical behavior in a relationship; 3) risks of early sexual activity (physical and emotional) including an update on STDs; 4) how to build healthy relationships and 5) drugs and alcohol. [Note: This class is for 8th Graders ONLY - this WILL be monitored! Note the waiver for this class in the T's and C's of the registration form]

“Bend it Shape It” Yoga for Girls
Learn how yoga can help you deal with stress and help keep you fit. Introduction to the origination and practice of yoga. Learn and practice basic yoga poses and breathing techniques you can use throughout life. [Note: This session includes physical activity so comfortable clothes are required]

“Self Defense - What Every Girl Should Know”
Every girl needs to know how to stay safe and protect herself, if necessary. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to set verbal boundaries and physically fight back if you need to. Very interactive; everyone will practice multiple types of strikes and escape methods. [Note:
This session includes physical activity so comfortable
clothes and shoes are required. Waiver form signed by
parent or guardian required - in the T's and C's section of the registration form.]

Ever wonder if some diets are really safe? Or how you can excel at sports? Learn how to eat healthy at home and on the go, including how to order at restaurants. Get the lowdown on dieting, strength training, eating disorders and more.

“Wanna Dance?” - both Beginner and Intermediate Classes are offered
Dancers are not measured by their experience or technique level. A dancer is anyone that gets joy out of moving their body to their favorite song or rhythm. We are all dancers deep down inside! Come explore your inner dancer with this exciting jazz-funk class. The class includes a warm-up and stretch, across the floor movements, and dance choreography. Try original dance styles that will build your confidence, cardio health, flexibility, strength and coordination. [Note: This session includes physical activity so comfortable clothes required. If you have ballet or jazz shoes bring them. However dance shoes are not required, just make sure you have socks and tennis shoes.]
Workshop Leader: Julie Visser, has over 20 years of dance experience, including teaching, performing, and choreography, in ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, and tap dance.
“Exploring the Great Outdoors - Not Just for Guys!”
Throw away your “it’s just for guys” perceptions and dare to explore outdoor activities you never thought about trying before. Whether it’s rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, kayaking or ??? – you can have fun and stay fit for a lifetime through outdoor adventure. Join us for an interactive workshop that explores various activity options. You’ll learn where you can go locally to try them out and what gear you’ll need to have a great time. Experts will be on hand to answer all of your questions, even those about outdoor career and volunteer opportunities. Visit with special wildlife that will be on hand and learn how to protect them and the environment while you’re out there doing the things you love to do! [Note: This session will be held outdoors (weather permitting) and so warm, comfortable clothes and shoes are a required].

Get the scoop on what to wear, how to sit, how to read a menu and other fundamentals of dining etiquette when eating with family and friends. We'll also learn tips and tricks to employ when interacting with persons from different cultures. Additionally, we will cover phone, social conversation, theatre, host and hostess etiquette and so much more. These social-savvy tips will allow you to stand out in any crowd!
All teaching will be interactive and done around the dinner table

“Bigger Than Myself"
Nothing makes us feel better about ourselves than to make a positive difference in someone else’s life. This workshop will inspire you to volunteer so you can make a personal difference in your community or somewhere else in the world. Youth volunteers will be on hand from a local S-Club (a high school girls' service club sponsored by Soroptimist) and from the Volunteer Center of the East Bay to share their personal volunteer experiences and knowledge with you. You’ll learn how to get started as a volunteer and where to look for opportunities to help out. Caroline Lovell will introduce you to the simple but highly effective Traveling Postcard project she created this year. Through the Traveling Postcard she’ll help YOU create, you can actually get started in the wonderful world of volunteerism by sharing your card with a woman in need.

“Women in Movies: Behind the Scenes and On Camera"
Are you interested in the field of film making but don’t know how to get started? Learn about the various stages of making movies from expert Scarlett Shepard and two successful film makers who will share their personal journeys with you. After viewing the two inspiring films produced by these young women, you’ll participate in a discussion about basic film making, including how to take a concept and move through the stages of scripting, editing and distributing it. Bring all of your questions, and expect to walk away from this workshop with a good overview of film making and resources that can help you immediately get started in this exciting field. Let your voice be heard and try filmmaking!
