Soroptimist International of San Ramon Valley, California, President:  Jacky Hawley

President's Corner...

Well, I know that I have BIG shoes to fill.  Jacky was an amazing President and I don't know what I was thinking when I volunteered to be the one to follow her!  Thank you Jacky for being a true inspiration to all of us and for your dedicated service.

I am excited to be your President and I have a great board that I am going to be relying on in order to keep me "straight!"  Already we were singled out at the President's Roundtable for being only 1 of 2 clubs that had our forms in on-time!  This is thanks to Sally and Holly and their vast experience!  Thank you already to Robin for agreeing to be Parliamentarian and to April and Marlene for filling in board positions that were suddenly and unexpectedly open.  And, I also want to acknowledge Jenny for being such a responsive Secretary.  The meeting minutes are published quickly and accurately.

We are VERY busy right now trying to get everything set for a successful "She's All That!" in Feb as well as keep our other projects active.  Kelly is doing an amazing job as SAT committee chairperson.  We are still in need of a keynote speaker and, of course, can always use more sponsorships and donations and raffle prizes.

We expect this to be one of our best years ever for the S Club as most of the active members are now seniors.  We continue to work with the PAH girls and will try to have an activity with them at least every other month.  In the meantime, now is the time to solicit applications for our WOA and Violet Richardson awards so if you can pass around the applications to any businesses, churches, organizations, etc. that you think can help to distribute them to the appropriate folks, then please do so.

In the meantime, I am also looking forward to making the first Innovation Award.  This is an award that the board will give to the person(s) that we feel came up with a creative solution or idea in that quarter.  The reward will be funds that the winner can allocate to a service project of their choice (it does not have to be an existing one that SISRV supports but it DOES have to aligh with our mission and it DOES need to meet board approval).

Again, I look forward to this challenge and will do everything I can to make this a successful year.
